Anna Cahill Painting

I don't have any memories from my childhood of wanting to be an artist or of thinking that I could paint. It's very possible that I have blocked them all out.

I was born in Cork, Ireland in 1967 and immigrated to Canada when I was 18. My training is in social work and I still work part-time as a counsellor/therapist.

I started to learn to sculpt a few years ago but the pandemic forced a closure of the border between Canada and the US so that put an end to that. I might come back to it.

I always seem to need to have my hands in something so, instead, I picked up a paintbrush.
Now I can't stop painting.

I start with a plan - lots of drawings and colour palettes. Things never go according to the plan.

I have to psych myself up to paint. Every. Time. Sometimes there is a little panic at the start. Usually it settles.
